Welcome to the Monroe County Tax Commissioner Website

The duties and responsibilities of the Tax Office are many and varied, but our main function is tho serve you, the citizens of our community.

The two main responsibilities of our office are to collect your property tax and sell car tags. Please remember that your tax commissioner is not responsible for your property values or your tax rates. Your tax commissioner is your collector. State law requires that property tax bill be sent to the owner as of January 1st. If you have sold property or bought property after January 1, please contact the tax office.

Your car tags are due no later than the day of your birthday, unless your birthday falls on the weekend or a holiday. In this case, you must purchase your tag the next business day to avoid paying penalties.

*****ATTENTION MONROE COUNTY RESIDENTS*****
  • Property taxes are due on December 1st.
  • We are open from 7:30AM until 5:00PM.
  • The drive through is also open.
  • We accept checks, cash and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, & Discover with a 2.5% fee of the total).
  • We also accept postmark mail (please have them stamp it post marked with the date of 12/20).
  • We also have a drop box for payments for car tags, property taxes, and mobile home taxes for after hours, weekends and holidays.
  • We also offer tag renewals through the dor.ga.gov website or any kiosk.

About Our Tax Commissioner

Lori Andrews was elected to her first full term in November 2008, then sworn in as the Monroe County Tax Commissioner in January 2009.

Previously, Lori served the Tax Commissioner's office in the position of Deputy Tax Commissioner from January 2000, then was appointed as Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner in 2005. Lori is also a member of the Georgia Association of Tax Officials and Constitutional Officers Association of Georgia.
